This image succeeds on all counts. The split image gives the viewer a framework for the story: there is a mirror, and a woman who might be anything from asleep to enchanted to dead. The copious leaf and ivy elements adds to the "Once Upon a Time" image, since so many of those tales happen in the deep, magical woods.
The use of black-and-white also serves to draw the viewer's imagination into the image: Are the leaves green from summer or orange or brown from winter? Are the models cheeks rosy or pale?
The choice to not give the viewer the full color also enhances the image in the mirror: Is it a reflection of the "real" world, or a projection of somewhere far away?
The model's pose is also lovely. She looks lost there, helpless. Is she under the spell of the mirror?
Yet, the asymmetry of the image, with the model's panel taking up somewhat more than the the mirror's panel, leaves one to believe that all is not lost for her. In fact, her placement on the right lends to the idea that she can escape from whatever spell has been put upon her, since one can imagine that if the wall on which she leans is removed, she can simply slide right out of the story.
Still, that wall is there. Will it hold her forever?
I do have a couple of nits:
I'm not sure what the shiny thing positioned on or above the model's left thigh is. Is it a plant or something she's holding in her lap?
I also think the dress she wears should be a lighter color, especially considering the black-and-white color map, in order to make her form more clearly distinguishable from the leaves and porch: not necessarily white, but something somewhat lighter than what she wears.
All in all, though, this is an amazing image. I've seen images roughly along these lines before, but this is a new and creative take on the theme.
